Seattle Seahawks 36 year old left tackle Walter Jones retires after 13 years in the NFL. The team immediately retired Jones' #71 and is only the 3rd retired number for the Seahawks. Jones earned 8 pro bowl selections throughout his career. Mike Holmgren called him "the best offensive player i have ever coach." Keep in mind that he has coached Brett Favre, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice.
Jones was possibly the centerpiece of everything Seahawks related. He opened up rushing lanes for Shaun Alexander's MVP year. He blew back pass rushers for Matt Hasselbeck during their Super Bowl year. Just to show how important Jones is, when he was injured in 2008, the Seahawks have tried 4 different tackles to fill his spot. None have ever been successful. Also, Matt Hasselbeck had his worst statistical year when Jones was injured.
Jones will be remembered by all Seahawks fans and players.

As a Niner fan Im not sad he left the game but as football fan its always tough seeing someone who plays their position better than anyone else step away.....easily one of the top 10 tackles of the last 30 years

Ah the good old days of the Seahawks with him and Steve Hutchinson. If you ask me this is pretty much what made Alexander the running back he was in the NFL but I digress. Walt was the best LT I have seen to day. He had a great work ethic, had great skills, and he was an all around beast.

Horrible to hear about Walter Jones retiring definately one of the great tackles of all-time but more importantly the comment of Mike Holmgren calling him the greatest offensive player he has ever coached is a HUGE honor.
