Fairly obvious one here. The most explosive player in the NFL, and the only back on the year to top 2,000 yards on the ground. Add to that 500+ yards receiving, and 16 TD's, and you have the best offensive player in the AFC.
AFC Defensive Player of the Year: Darrelle Revis
If you need justification for this one, just look at the numbers. Andre Johnson couldn't even get 40 yards against him. Randy Moss couldn't even come close to 100 yards in two games against Revis. Drew Bress could only put up 190 yards against the Jets, and nearly half of them were accounted by Pierre Thomas, and Jeremy Shockey, two guys Revis is not responsible for. Bottom line if Darrelle Revis is covering you, I don't care who you are, consider yourself lucky to even get 50 yards receiving that day.
AFC Offensive Rookie of the Year: Kenny Britt
Touch choice in a very thin field of candidates, but Kenny Britt has shown some flashes of brillance during the season as a potential number one receiver, including 2 100+ yard games. Only time will tell if he can emerge as that number one receiving threat Tennessee currently lacks.
AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year: Brian Cushing
128 tackles, and 4 INT's is certainly worthy of a Pro Bowl appearance. Add to that this guy only being a rookie, and the sky is the limit for this guy.
AFC Coach of the Year: Rex Ryan
If the Jets still had Brett Favre, they might very well be the best team in the NFL. Ryan came in and turned an average defensive unit into the best in the NFL. The only weakness this team has is at QB, although if Sanchez can develop into a decent QB, the Jets could be a force to be reckoned with for quite some time.
NFC Offensive Player of the Year: Aaron Rdogers
The only knock against him is that he may hold onto the ball too much, but besides that he's argubly the best QB in the NFL. One of the best scrambling threats in the NFL, he had over 300 yards rushing and 5 TD's, while also throwing for over 4,400 yards through the air. I'd say Rodgers has replaced Brett Favre at this point.
NFC Defensive Player of the Year: Jared Allen
There may not be a more feared defensive player in the NFL today then Jared Allen. He anchors perhaps the stingest defensive unit against the run in the NFL, and his 14.5 sacks led the NFC. For my money he's the best defensive lineman in the NFL today, and the best defensive player in the NFL.
NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year: Percy Harvin
Talk about a multiple threat. Harvin had over 2,000 total yards for the season, and 8 touchdowns. He is also currently one half of perhaps the best receiving combo in the NFC, and it's why he's my NFC offensive rookie of the year.
NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year: Brian Orakpo
What the Redskins were hoping for in Haynesworth, they found in Orakpo. Already possesing one of the best combos of strength and speed in the NFL, Orakpo is capable of playing multiple defensive positions, and even more important is capable of being effective at them. His 11 sacks led all rookies in the NFL, and was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise ugly year for the Redskins.
NFC Coach of the Year: Mike Singeltary
Since firing Steve Mariucci for reasons still unknown, the Niners have been a team without any direction. That all changed this year. The Niners were a very respectable 8-8, although that alone doesen't tell you the whole story, as 6 of those loses came by a touchdown or less, including 3 point loss to Minnesota, and a 4 point loss to Indianapolis, two of the best teams in the NFL. I don't think any team out there is looking at the Niners at this point and thinking easy win.
Feel free to post your own, as there are plenty of guys like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Patrick Willis that could be argued for these awards.
If you want to do an MVP thing that's fine too, the only reason I didn't do one was because I don't think you can really compare defense to offense.
