I like how the MLB has it to where each team has to have atleast one player on the team. I think the Fans could have thought about it a little better and not voted Hamilton and Beltran as starters cause neither of them deserve it in my opinion. I also think that The Tigers were lucky they got three players on the team. now yes they are having a good season but i think that maybe Ian Kinsler should ahev amde it on before Curtis Granderson but what do i knwo thats just how i feel

I feel as thought Yovani Gallardo got robbed of not making the team. I think he deserves it just as much if not more than MAtt Cain and or Chad Billingsly

Johan shouldn't have made it he's just not good enough put in someone that has a better era . He has great strikeouts to walks ratio but he's not the person that should be in the All Star Game.

Just so people know Carlos Beltran of the Mets is out, Jayson Werth of the Phillies is in.  (the change is shown at the top of the page, as will all roster changes right up until first pitch)

Nelson Cruz of the Rangers is also in, while Torii Hunter is out.

For those wondering why Cruz and Werth are in as opposed to others, there actually is a specific order to replacement players.

When a player is out of the all-star game, it reverts to the players vote to who gets in.

The leading vote getter not currently in (in this case Cruz in the AL, and Werth in the NL) are the replacement players.

Also apparently John Smoltz will be taking part in this year's home run derby.  He may even be able to win it all if the initial reports of him in batting practice are true.

http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/john_smoltz_somehow_winds

On a more serious note, Bud Selig will be hosting a chat on MLB.com on Tuesday afternoon, so if you have any questions for the commissioner of baseball, this might be your best opportunity to ask him.

Some of the names to look out for in the Celebrity Softball game which will be held this Sunday, but won't be on TV until Monday immediately following the home run derby.  (in quotes are my thoughts on them)

Legends:
Bruce Sutter (doesen't belong in the HOF as long as Bert Byleven isn't in, but whatever)
Dave Winfield (will hit a home run every time up, no point in even pitching to him)
Ernie Banks (very interested to see how the 78 year old will fair, my guess is he will start the game at short before being moved to first base.  Banks will also hit a home run his first time up, before striking out in every at bat thereafter)
Rollie Fingers (mustache will prove to be too distracting for opposing hitters, start him)
Goose Gossage (see Rollie Fingers, flip coin as to who starts if both are on same team)
Lee Smith (no longer all-time leader in saves, only reason people cared about him in the first place)
Vince Coleman (it was either he plays, or he's in charge of the fireworks show)
Whitey Herzog (thought he was dead, glad to see he's not, take cue from managing career, don't make yourself player manager)
Thommy John (still hoping to make a comeback at the age of 1000, had another Thommy John surgery this offsesaon, Washington shows interst)
Fred Lynn (will play well, but only hits home runs in these types of games when the bases are loaded)

Celebrities:
Nelly (is probably wondering why the NBA moved the All-Star game to July right now)
Carl Edwards (will do a backflip to short and summon the spirit of Ozzie Smith, meaning he will make 3 gold glove caliber plays, and go 1 for 4 at the plate)
Jenna Fischer (can't imagine Pam from the Office being very good at sports, but is the leading runner for the participation trophy as of now)
Jon Hamm (looks like a dbag, hope Fingers or Goosage nail him in the face with a heater)
Shawn Johnson (highly recommend she watch films of Brett Butler if she actually wants to play well, and not Joe McEwing)
James Denton (looks like a likeable guy, but I don't watch Desperate Housewives, so I have no idea who you are)
Billy Bob Thornton (thought there would be drinking involved, there should be if you ask me)
Brian Littrell (needs money)
Bob Knight (this is why I say drinking should be involved)
Andy Richter (Connan O'Brien was out with having a life)

That's my thoughts and I'm sticking with them.

I actually attending the Futures Game, Celebrity/Legends Softball game and the fanfest at last year's All-Star Game festivites. It actually is a lot of fun and MLB puts on a great show. I was able to see Cal Ripken Jr., Whitey Ford, Billy Ripken and Erin Andrews at the Fanfest event last year. Definately a blast.

So Dustin Pedroia is skipping the game to be with his wife who is due to have a baby soon. AL Manager John Madden replaces him with Rays 1st basemen Carlos Pena. The move puts Aaron Hill into the starting lineup and still snubs Ian Kinsler.

Johnathon Broxton is going to go but not play with a big toe injury so Trevor Hoffman is going to replace him and theres a good chance that Matt Cain misses the game after taking a liner off his pitching elbow last night. No replacment has been named for him yet

Tonight's Home Run Derby Participants:

American League
Nelson Cruz Texas Rangers
Brandon Inge Detroit Tigers
Joe Mauer Minnesota Twins
Carlos Pena Tampa Bay Rays

National League
Prince Fielder Milwaukee Brewers
Adrian Gonzalez San Diego Padres
Ryan Howard Philadelphia Phillies
Albert Pujols St. Louis Cardinals

Personally I like Albert to win it all, which probably means he won't as I have yet to correctly guess the Home Run Derby champion since Sammy Sosa in 2000.

Other favorites would obviously be 2006 champ Ryan Howard, and Prince Fielder, but as we've seen in the past any player can win this so your guess is really as good as mine.

The Home Run Derby is also on at 8PM EST on ESPN, and will immediately be followed by the Legends and Celebrity Softball game that was held yesterday.

Well in my opinion the NL ahs the hands down advantage on the AL wit the guys they have in the contest. Now having said this Nelson cruz has been having a very good and a quiet season at that so i'm going to take him over hometwon favorite and everyone elses favorite Albert Pujols

Starting pitchers for tomorrow will be Roy Halladay for the American League, and Tim Lincecum for the National League.

Changes have been donated in the first post, as will all other roster changes right up until first pitch.

Also the starting lineup is listed in the order of which they will be batting.

Did anyone else think that the HR Derby was terribly boring? I thought it was awful. It just takes entirely to long to get everything done. I think they need to try to re-think it a little bit. Terribly Boring. Maybe Josh Hamilton just spoiled me last year, but this years was terrible. The Celebrity/Legends Softball game afterwards was way more exciting.

I got tired of the HR Derby and i turned it off after Pujols hit in the Bat off. I jsut got the effing tracker up and watched the guy I picked finish second. I wish i had seen the game afterwords cause that would have been funny to see Nelly and Bobby Knight play softball

I can see where your coming from, but the one thing about this home run derby that I noticed was guys were taking alot more pitches then they had in year's past.  Also your best guys usually come later in the derby.  The two top guys Fielder and Cruz were the first ones up.  After that it was really downhill from there until we got to the finals.

Very true pmoe. Guys did take a lot of pitches. And after Fielder and Cruz, the rest of the first round was terrible. Just was not into it at all.

The Homerun Derby still got a 5.6 rating which is really good. I watched the Homerun Derby, but it wasn't as good as last year or year's past.
