Im sure you have all seen the commercials for the WBC on ESPN and whatnot, so i was wondering if anybody is actually going to pay attention to this. Also, if you do care enoguh to watch, whose your favorite to win it all?

I'll watch some of the games. I think the US has a very good team but so do other teams. It's most likely going to come down to the USA, Dominican Republic and Japan

Yeah I will watch and will root on the ol' USA. I didn't find the WBC to be that exciting in '06, but it's baseball and I can't wait for the season to begin.
I'm probaly going towards the Dominican Republic. they have A Rod, Hanley Ramierez, Miguel Tejada, Moises Alou, Willy Aybar, Adrian Beltre and many others.

this thing is going to come down to one thing: picthcing. the team with the best pitching will win, and that is japan. they will repeat and win their 2nd world baseball classic
Well if you have good pitching then you should win it. But as i stated before you need to be able to produce runs Which i thinkt he US will eb able to do and the US dosn't have a terrible pitching staff going either

Not a big fan of the back end of the rotation for Team USA... Ted Lilly and Jeremy Gutherie doesnt strike fear into me. Now with Putz Fuentes Broxton Shields Ryan Ziegler and Thornton the back end will be ok. Losing Sizemore Hawpe and Nathan is not good for USA! Projected Lineup:

Joe Mauer is rehabbing from a kidney obstruction surgery from back in December. The Twins are just taking their time with him so he is ready for opening day.

Team USA keeps dropping like flies!!! Nathan and Fuentes...Team USA could be trouble in their group with Venzuela and Canada...Canada playing on their home turf...Russell Martin Jason Bay and Justin Morneau to name a few could upset the Americans like they did 2 years ago
Well Canada has a lot more talent than i thought that they did. Good power there with Bay and Morneau and a Good and getitng better Catcher in Russell Martin. I'll give them props i think they could do more than really all the experts believe.

I think it could be executed better, exhibit A. being the whole incident with Cuba back in 2006, but this type of tournament is a huge step towards the globalization of baseball.
I still think it needs work, but the principles behind the WBC is exactly what the game needs right now. Sports are definately going international as opposed to National, and in order for baseball to stay ahead of the curve of other major sports, it must strive to be the international past time as well as the national pastime, because that's what every other sport is attempting to do as we speak.
I'm a little surprised the United States hasn't gotten more behind this, but then again we've always been a country that puts more emphases on National competition as opposed to World competition.
That may be starting to change though. It will be interesting to see how much attention this event will attract. My bet is that the attention from the US will be about the same, if not slightly less, but the rest of the world will care alot more then they did in the last one, and that one wasn't exactly ignored either by countries like Japan, and the DR.
