Brett Favre retires...again

Brett Favre's agent informed the New York Jets today that he plans on retiring from the game of football almost one year from when he announced his retirement in Green Bay.

While I'm sure Brett will have his critics about coming out of retirement this season and ending his career with the New York Jets; as a Green Bay Packer fan and a Brett Favre fan I will always be thankful and remember the many years he played the game.

Whether he was taking a snap in Atlanta, New York or Green Bay, he played the game of football the same way for 18 awesome seasons. One of only two players to ever win the NFL MVP award three times, Brett will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time and was one of the many faces of a decade of football in the 90s and 2000s.

If this is truly the last time we see the gunslinger #4 on the field (never say never with Brett Favre) then he will be forever missed.

The John Wayne of football went out on his horse the way he wanted to, whether people agreed or disagreed, he did it his way.

Thank you Brett Favre.

I would go with Jonny Unitas as the John Wayne of football since they were in their prime in each of what they did. Brett Farve was a very good quarterback, but he lost respect when he decided to lie to everyone on the face of the earth. He should've retired last year as a Green Bay Packer, instead of trying to go another year and make a fool of himself

In all honesty, I learned my lesson last year. I will believe it when training camp opens and he's still in Mississippi. Until then, the jets need to prepare to start the year with Brett....Ratliff that is.

I think he's gone for good this time.

Just for the simple fact that I believe if Brett Favre does decide again he would like to come back, there will be next to no takers.

No team out there is going to invest in a 39 year old starting QB who could only be considered average at best at this point.

The only reason the Jets didn't bench him in December was because his name was Brett Favre.

i think this time around, favre will stay retired. he said that the reason why he wont be coming back is because of his health, and i dont think he will come back for that reason. its one thing when you dont feel like doing it and retiring, but its a different thing when you cant physically do it

I think this time SG he is done because of what he experienced going through New York. I don't think that he would want to do another training camp.

Brett Favre is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, it's a big deal when a legend walks away from the game.

U want to avoid sadness, in this case the solution would be him staying and playing with an another team. what is the good in that?

I have no idea what you mean, if you mean Favre wanted to play for the Vikings, then ok. Yes he wanted to continue to play in the NFC North.

this is what I'm saying. pistons like many other people don't enjoy being sad. right now he is sad, the solution for that would be favre playing for a different team. Thus making that team better. why would he want that? Do u understand?

I am a huge Favre fan, with that being said yes I was sad last season when he retired, but happy he was done (he's 38 years old and dont a lot for the game). When he came back I was happy and when he retired again I was sad (again) but I was happy that he is finally going to take it easy.

The guy has done a lot for the game, I will miss watching him play but everything good doesn't last forever.

Cleemmons had his shot, he blew it.....the Jets should go ahead and pack up for the number one pick in the 2010 draft.

yea the jets will get mark sanchez at 17th pick according to Mel Kipper jr. mostly cuz teams 11-16 dont need a QB.

JP the Jets won't do the worst in 2009 my vote is still on the Detroit Lions, put Bollinger in and see what he can do. If he is bad then oh well you always have next year to get a good quarterback.

im not sold on the jets getting sanchez. especially if collins or warner or garcia is available. if they dont sign those guys, they might hold an open competition between ratliff and clemens.

who knows? from what i hear jets ppl think very highly of bret ratliff, so maybe the wont feel the need to get another qb. maybe they feel they found a diamond in the rough. or maybe itll be another rex grossman/kyle orton situation

I am glad that Brett Farve retired because I am so sick of hearing about him. He pulled the same stuff with the Packers. At least he did not cry this time.

I got tired of listening to Brett Farve wine and moan, but thats life when you retire you get emotional especially if your good at that position and that you are probaly the best player to ever play the game.

Yes, baja, he is. And that's coming from a die-hard Bears fan who grew up hating Favre and the Packers. He is the best QB ever.

LOL are u being sarcastic?

Favre is not the best quarterback of all time. Alright, he may have the TD passes and the yards, but look in how many years.

65,127 yards; 464 TDs; 310 INTs; 85.4 QB rating in 18 seasons.

Let's look at, say, Dan Marino

61,361 yards; 420 TDs; 252 INTs; 86.4 QB rating in 17 seasons.

How bout... Peyton Manning

45,628 yards; 333 TDs; 165 INTs; 94.7 QB rating in 11 seasons.

Steve Young

33,124 yards; 232 TDs; 107 INTs; 96.8 QB rating in 15 seasons.

Johnny U

40,239 yards; 290 TDs; 253 INTs; 78.2 QB rating in 18 seasons.

Montana

40,551 yards; 273 TDs; 139 INTs; 92.3 QB rating in 15 seasons.

Otto Graham

23,584 yards; 174 TDs; 135 INTs; 86.6 QB rating in 10 seasons.

Great QBs don't kill their teams with turnovers

Umm, thank you for proving my point. Yes he threw a lot of interceptions but for the most part, he made up for them by throwing for a lot of yards and touchdowns.

i agree with baja, i dont think brett is the best of all time. not only did he throw alot of int's but he only won one super bowl. thats why im giving the nod to joe montana

Ok, he won one Super Bowl, and made it to the Super Bowl the very next year. He won 3 MVP awards in a row. I honestly can't believe I'm defending Brett Favre right now. But growing up as a Bears fan and having to watch them play Favre twice a year pretty much convinced me that he is the best QB ever.

I am a huge Brett Favre fan, while saying someone is the "greatest of all-time" is a tough arguement, I must say Brett Favre is one of the greatest quarterback of all-time. I gotta give respect to Johnny U, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, and eventually Peyton Manning.

Favre is at least Top 3 Greatest Quarterbacks of all-time

Baja this is probaly the only time I will ever agree with Steven, but Farve is the best QB of all time. He has the most yards and most touchdown passes thrown. Althought he has the most Interceptions, you expect that for someone of his gun slinging ability.

What else could someone want from favre? Yes granted he threw a lot of interceptions but he is one of the greatest of all time no doubt. THE greatest... debatable.

I don't know cheesy it could have helped if he won like two more Superbowls that would have helped him.

When it comes to the "greatest" QB debate, I look at this way: Which QB would you want starting for your team if you needed to win one game? With that, I'll go with Tom Brady over everybody else. His hatred of losing, combined with his ability to make big plays in crucial situations makes him No. 1 in my book.

Oh in that scenario I got to go with the boy Joe Montana, greatest winner in NFL history in my opionion with four Superbowl wins tied with Terry Bradshaw for the most.

I think Tom Brady is the best QB ever. He makes his team win. That's why he is the greatest, I wasn't making a whole different scenario bob.

As a huge Favre fan, I'm going to defend saying why I would want him as the Quarterback on my team simply for these reasons:

He could make any wide reciever look good. He never had a Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Randy Moss-like wide reciever.

(Now I know I'm going to get the Tom Brady did have Moss till last season stuff; but to be honest Brady wasn't a stand out QB like most QBs are. He is a good team player...most talented QB...I don't think so)

Favre had Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Robert Brooks, Antonio Freeman, Bubba Franks, Mark Chumira to name a few as his recievers. All decent Wide Recievers but looked good thanks to Brett Favre. There was never any "soon to be" or "will be" or "are" Hall of Fame Wide Recievers in Brett Favre's era.

And that says something.

He made the players around him look good, the players around him didn't make him look good.

We could throw out stats about Favre all we want, but to me that is the biggest stat of all.

Hey Greg Jennings will make the Hall of Fmae when his career is all said and done, and Donald Driver no disrespecting this guy he is a class act as a reciever, he as of now is the best reciever he has played with.
