One of the Greatest Coaches of any sport just died

John Wooden was in a grave state Last night and hospitalized

You would expect this to come sooner or later at his age...

All the Fans of UCLA and every other college/team he coached will remember him.

He was 4 Months and 10 days short of Hitting Triple Digits.

His Achievements: 10 National Championships as a Coach
1 As a Player
6 Time Coach of the Year and Many More...

RIP JOhn Wooden

Whenever people argue greatest coaches, they often argue championships.

He was on UCLA! Thats like the equivalent of coaching the NY Yankees. Joe Torre isnt going to be a HOF coach just cause he won championships with the Yanks.

And you said hes equivalent to Bob Knight? Knight coached TTU, Indiana, and Army. The last time I checked, those three schools were not nearly as prestigious as UCLA. Therefore Knight > Wooden.

It takes players to win championships. A-Rod, Jeter, Posada and Mo could've easily won a championship without Torre....and they did it with Girardi. Jordan and Pippen could've easily won a championship without Phil Jackson.

Coaches don't mean **** to great teams.

I've made my point.

I almost agree with all of PF is saying. Guess who gets those great players for those teams PF, the coach. Wooden convinced those guys to come to UCLA. So by that I think he's one of the greatest.

I guess if you put it in college sports perspective, he would be one of the greatest coaches due to recruiting, but in any sport? No. Pro coaches will always be recognized as better than college coaches.

John Wooden is by far and away the greatest coach in all of sports. He was not only a great X and O guy but he was a teacher of not only basketball but of life. His pyramid of success is a staple in education and the business world. Lets talk X and O's...The UCLA offense that was installed by Coach Wooden is still prevalent today in basketball. All the 1-4 sets (PG at the top of the key, 2 post guys one on each block, and 2 wings one in each corner) you see in basketball started with Coach Wooden. Coach Wooden never made more than 36,000 dollars a year and he never asked for a raise. He said that he figured if he was doing his job then UCLA would pay him more. A sporting news poll of 118 HOF championship coaches and other experts voted Wooden the greatest coach ever. He got 57 1st place votes 2nd place only had 20 1st place votes...There is no arguement coach Wooden will forever be the greatest coach of all time

Well you made my point PF...you said pro coaches are recognized as better than college coaches but not in college basketball.....you become a legned in college but in the pros you can win coach of the year and get fired within two seasons...just ask Byron Scott and Mike Brown
