Raiders plan on cutting JaMarcus Russell

It appears that the Oakland Raiders are days away from cutting former #1 draft pick JaMarcus Russell from their roster making him a free agent almost three years to the date he was drafted as the #1 overall player in the 2007 draft.

Which begs the question that we brought up on last night's Wheelhouse. Is JaMarcus Russell possibly the biggest bust in the NFL history.

Sure he hasn't been cut yet and it isn't saying he won't re-sign somewhere next but unless a complete attitude change happens I don't expect we will see some sort of rebirth from the former LSU quarterback. He will probably land one more place if he is lucky but that could be the end of the road.

I still consider Ryan Leaf one of the biggest busts in NFL history but Russell could take that over in the next couple of years.

Russell is already there because he was a #1 pick overall and Leaf was #2...He has no work ethic and basically IMO the dumbest person ever to play the position of quarterback. He held out his rookie year to get paid...He basically stole 30 million dollars from the Raiders!

He must ate all that money up. I wouldn't be surprised if he is on some sort of VH1 show in the next five years and I don't mean his own. I'd have to predict Celeb. Fit Club.

I'm saying that JaMarcus Russell is the biggest bust of a quarterback to ever happen in the NFL, the fact is he probaly won't be picked up by anyother team when he is cut, and he would've only played three years. Ryan Leaf and Rick Meyer at least had better stats and lasted longer in the NFL than JaMarcus Russell did.

I gotta disagree with you on that one Bob. The Chargers had to actually trade up to the 2nd pick to get Leaf, they traded 2 first round picks, a 2nd round pick, backup LB Patrick Sapp, and a pro bowler in Eric Metcalf. The Raiders got the first pick for just being themselves, no trades or anything. Leaf was also a humongous cry baby, I'm pretty sure everyone has seen that infamous video of him just going to town on Jay Posner. Russell also has better stats, and led his team to more victories. Just to name a couple of stats, Russell has more career TDs and yards.

Your right JaMarcus Russell has four more touchdowns than Ryan Leaf, but having said that also Ryan Leaf didn't hold out and he didn't have over 30 million dollars guaranteed. That's where I'm coming from.

Well he would have probably gotten that kind of money if it wasn't 1998, and he was the 1st overall pick.

I'm putting my name in the free agency pool and i'll be more than glad to get signed before Russell. I'm sorry this guy could be a decent QB in this league if he wasn't lazy and on such a bad team. I mean the guy has a cannon of an arm for cryin out loud and if the raiders had any idea of what they are doin they could have been a little better with him at the helm

I think all the blame belongs to Russell. He is out of shape, clearly doesn't care and has horrible work ethic. For once it is NOT the Raiders fault.

The Raiders have always made poor talent decisions......they draft guys who have tons of ability but put them in poor situations to succeed.....Darren McFadden has Adrian Peterson ability, but then they dont use him properly....Al Davis makes me glad to be a Niner fan

I wouldn't say always CO, I would just say recently. The Raiders were kicking some ass back in the day.
