The Nationals aren't going to be good with him, and bringing him up for the purpose of selling a few tickets isn't a very good reason to me.
I've got three words for people who think Strasburg should start in the majors today, Todd Van Poppel.
One of the biggest factors in making a big league pitcher is poise. How well can you respond to adversity? That can be very difficult for someone do to especially if they've been dominating all the way up to this point. I can almost guarantee you the days of Strasburg striking out 16 batters a game on a regular basis are over. He might expect that though, it can be very frustrating to a young pitcher when success doesen't come immediately.
Nobody likes to fail, but you better be able to deal with it, especially at this level, otherwise you are not going to have a very long career.
That being said, I do think Strasburg will be a very productive major league pitcher, and may have the stuff to become one of the best the game has ever seen. Just don't expect this guy to be Sandy Koufax on day one, because even Koufax wasn't the pitcher he later became on day one.
He shouldn't be up in the major leagues right off the bat, he should spend a couple of months in the minor leagues, but if he's ready and show's that he's capable of going to start in the major leagues. Then they should bring him up opening day and see what he has to offer them.
