Johnny Damon now a tiger

After a good tenure as a Yankee Johnny Damon is now set to be a Detroit Tiger. He has argeed on a one year/eight mill contract. So they trade granderson presumeably to save money and sign Damon for 8 mill?

This just doesn't make sense to me.

No. I doubt that was the real reason, but I do think its close to it somewhat. I think they really did it just to save money, get some young players with big potential, and sign a veteran player to act as a mentor.

This is something your going to see more and more of in the coming years I think.

The days of veteran players, especially those over the age of 35 getting these monster contracts are coming to an end.

Teams are just not willing to give long term deals to aging veterans as they used to.

Did Damon shot himself in the foot?  Maybe, but then again I think he got what his market price was.
