Free agency is upon us and the winter meetings start soon.....what does your team need and who do you want to fill those slots.....all I want is Milton Bradley gone and the return of Steven MJ

Well it would be good for Roy Halladay to go to the Yankees, but not sure they will fork out all the money just for Halladay after getting Sabathia and Burnett last year.

Well, the first bombshell of the winter meetings has just been dropped, as the Yankees, Tigers, and Dbacks have just completed a massive three team deal.
Yankees
Receive: Curtis Granderson
Lose: Austin Jackson Phil Coke Ian Kennedy
Tigers
Receive: Austin Jackson Phil Coke Max Scherzer Daniel Schlereth
Lose: Curtis Granderson Edwin Jackson
Dbacks
Receive: Edwin Jackson Ian Kennedy
Lose: Daniel Schlereth Max Scherzer
To Hideki Matsui, the spells bad news, as the Yankees seem to be more commited to keeping Damon then they are Hideki, and now have a replacement for him.
The Tigers are obviously slashing salary here, regardless of what the front office says. You don't give up sure things for prospects, unless it's a salary dump.
The Diamondbacks also upgraded as well, as they now may have the best front three in baseball with Webb, Haren, and Jackson.
Oh my god. This was probably the worst trade the Tigers could have made. They need to stop their man-crush on Maggs and trade him. Hes worth FAR MORE than Granderson and Jackson are. I mean holy ****! **** you Dave Dombrowski!

Not sure what to think of the Granderson deal yet. Looks like the Yanks are going to make a run at Damon and potentially deal Melky now. Really like what I heard about Austin Jackson but thats what Yanks fan are used to when it comes to prospects.
We usually don't see them until they are on another team.
Not a whole lot? Jackson so far has had one solid season and one mediocre season.....he didnt do anything in the 2nd half last season (I know he was on my fantasy team and I almost cut him 3 times down the stretch) Scherzer and Schlereth both have a ton of ability and Tiger fans should have a potential number 2 starter and possibly the closer fo their future. Plus picking up Coke who can go long relief and spot start and Jackson who has a lot of ability. This trade came out pretty even to me if you go off the whole wait a couple years to evaluate the trade basis

I agree that I think Arizona got the better end of the deal. A healthy Brandon Webb, Dan Haren and Edwin Jackson is a pretty good 1-2-3 rotation. Not to mention Ian Kennedy was very underrated when he was healthy in NY. If he's healthy they have a pretty decent 4 or 5 starter.
The Tigers look good in the long run as well but their results won't come till about 2-3 years from now when Jackson comes into full swing. As for Phil Coke, I wouldn't be too excited about him as long relief, he's decent but not amazing.
*Mick Foley plug* looking forward to talking MLB Winter Meetings with SI.com's Ben Reiter Wednesday night on The Wheelhouse!
Probably the most active team this offseason has been the Texas Rangers.
So far they sent ace Kevin Millwood for reliever Chris Ray.
It was no doubt a salary cut, as Ray has fallen a long way from his closer status two years ago, but could have some upside if he can regain his old form.
However the Rangers aren't slashing salary, as they signed Rich Harden, a high risk, high reward pitcher.
The Rangers also traded for Mike Lowell, with the Sox expected to sign Adrian Beltre to play third.
I dont think Adrian Beltre is worth money they are going to have to pay him. Best plan for the Red Sox move Kevin Youklis to 3rd base and trade for Adrian Gonzales.
Yeah, I'm not that big on Beltre either, but the Sox aren't in much of a position to give up prospects, and San Diego is probably going to be asking the world for one of the five best first baseman in baseball.
Not only that but Adrian Gonzalez is about all the Padres have going for them right now. From a business standpoint I really don't think they can afford to trade him without incurring some backlash from their fans.
Aidrian Beltre is a joke, he hasn't been the same since he hit his 48 homeruns back when he was with LA. He is a good fielder, but hitting wise he could be a lot better. When the Mariners got him they expected at least 35 homeruns and 100 plus RBI's and he didn't deliver that at all, but if the Red Sox get him I will be very happy. Mike Lowell in my opionion is better, but that's just my opionion.

well getting Beltre allows the Red Sox to keep the Youk at 1B where he needs to be....hes not very good at 3rd since he put on some weirght...errr.....muscle

Next year will be Francoeurs year. No, this will be Francoeurs year. No wait, we said that last year. Wait didn't we say that the year before?
Baseball experts make me laugh.
Franceour has a ton of talent, he just needs to find a way of putting it together. That being said he did show some marked improvement in New York. He batted .311 with 10 home runs in just 75 games, and had a very respectable .836 OPS.
Obviously his biggest con is always going to be his lack of walks, but he has improved his strike out rate. In 2007 he was striking out once every fifth time he came to the plate. Now it's a little less then one time in every sixth at bat. May not seem like much, but even if a quarter of those lost strikeouts become base hits, that's about a ten point swing in a season's batting average.
Soriano is pretty good, he just really didn't have the best year last year. He is still capable of getting 30 30's so Ithink Soriano if the Cubs don't want him, could be a great addition to many teams out there. Many teams would still be interested in picking up Alfonso Soriano.

He didn't hit a home run after April, and you can't afford to have a corner outfielder hitting .260 with no power.
I doubt he'll be an everday starter. They still have Swisher in right, and I rather take a chance on Brett Gardner at this point in left before putting Winn there everyday.
What still amazing is that Johnny Damon has yet to sign, but that's the risk you run with having Boras as your agent. Boras and Damon really overplayed their cards by saying they would take no less then the current salary.
Scoot Borras is a very smart negotiater and agent, but the problem is the Yankees really don't need Damon for two or three years. I think after this year this will be his last semi productive year and then he'll just be like any other washed up player trying to hold on to there career.
