Thome & Garland headed to Los Angeles

The White Sox all but threw in the towel last night by sending Jim Thome to the Los Angeles Dodgers to reunite with former Cleveland Indians teammate Manny Ramirez. The Arizona Diamondbacks also sent Jon Garland to the Dodgers to round out their rotation. It looks like the Dodgers have become the favorite in the NL West now with this trade.

Good pick up for the Dodgers as they get Jim Thome who has left handed power and has hit 23 homers this year, and the Dodgers have been looking for a pitcher and now they got that in Jon Garland, they probaly should be favorites to go to the World Series in the NL either them or the Phillies.

Dodgers clearly aren't confident in James Loney at first, who after a big '07 has done very little.

Garland gives them some pitching help, but as I said before there is no reason why this team shouldn't have gotten Cliff Lee.

For what James Loney is capable of doing he isn't doing what he should be doing. He should be at least able to knock out 25 home runs every year but now he only has nine so something wrong here good pick up with Thome.

What's wrong with James Loney?  Very good question.

I have no idea to tell you the truth.

Whatever is wrong he better fix it quick, because the pickup of Thome is a direct result of Loney under performing, at least in the eyes of Dodger management.

A major question for them this offseason is going to be whether or not they feel James Loney is the first baseman of the future.

James Loney is underperforming because there is noone in the Dodgers farm system to push him. He is the type of player that needs to be motivated. He has gotten a free pass till now based on his grand slam in game one of last year's NLDS against the Cubs. Thome cant field the position anymore and will just probably be a left handed power bat off the bench...I like the Garland deal because the back end of the Dodgers rotation is garbage. With Kuroda hurt they dont have a #4 or #5 starter. Garland could eat up innings and save the bullpen which has been the backbone of the Dodgers pitching staff. Dodgers have revenge on their mind and their sights set on beating Philly in the playoffs and then having an old school matchup versus the Yankees in the Series.
