Shaun Hill was just named the 49ers starting QB.

From a fantasy football perspective, I wouldn't start him, but he isn't a bad guy to have coming off the bench.

This also confirms that Alex Smith will go down as one of the biggest busts in NFL history, and in my opinion the biggest bust of the past decade.

What about Matt Lienart?

Leinart wasn't number one overall, and I still think there is hope for him.  Plus Matt Leniart lost his job to Kurt Warner a former NFL MVP.  Smith lost it to Shaun Hill.  Big difference there.

Alex Smith was drafted based on looks alone.  He has the perfect build for a QB, and was a workout freak.

Needless to say Alex Smith looks every bit like Dan Marino until he actually takes the field, when he morphs into his alter ego of Mr. Softie.  Simply put Alex Smith can't handle an NFL blitz.  You get the slightest bit of pressure on him, and he completely crumbles.

Leinart I think there might still be hope for.  I wouldn't completely give up on him just yet.  Leinart did show some flashes out there of what he could be, but the only way were ever going to find out how good he actually is to play.  He needs to get out of Arizona, and go to a team that is willing to work with him which may or may not exist.  Or for Kurt Warner to retire already, eitehr one would probably work.

Bottom line though I would much rather have Matt Leinart on my team then Alex Smith.

That would be Reggie Bush pmoe. He was supposed to be the latest and greatest player to come out in a long time, and he hasn't been that at all. Alex Smith I agree will be in that category of a giant bust, but Reggie is number one in my book.

So Reggie Bush is a bigger bust to you even though he was a lower draft pick, and has actually been somewhat productive simply because of the ESPN hype machine?

It just seems like a double standard to me, which is why I'm not buying it.

I'll still take Reggie Bush over 3/4 of the players in the NFL today.

Go ahead man if you just want a scat back or third down running back. He lost his job out to Pierre Thomas, PIERRE THOMAS, if you can't beat out him that's embarrassing. Reggie Bush can only catch and the Saints got enough guys of those.

If you don't like Reggie Bush, fine.  Just say it.

But from a statistical perspective Reggie Bush blows Alex Smih competely out of the water, so I don't know what your trying to drive at here.

What makes Reggie Bush so much worse then Alex Smith other then the media hype surrounding him when he came into the league?  (which Alex Smith had a good amount of as well)

If you don't have an answer to that, then your not going to convince me.

Your acting as if Pierre Thomas is the worst running back in the league.

I will not pass judgement on Alex Smith yet. He was not gonna get named the starter unless he came out and just lit the field on fire. Shaun Hill went 5-2 down the stretch and the SF fans love him. Alex is on yet again another OC and just spent the last 2 seasons recovering from shoulder surgery. He is still only 25 and has time. He wont ever be Peyton or Brady but he could become a good QB.

Pierre Thomas is probaly one of the worst running backs in the league. He is probaly in the 24th 25th range for being the best.

Alex Smith is at the point where the only way he is ever going to see playing time is if the guy in front of him goes down with an injury.  No team in the NFL is going to build themselves around a QB who nearly throws 2 picks for every toudchdown.  I wouldn't say the shoulder surger had no impact but in virtually every game I saw him play in he just looked lost out there.

I'll give you a stat on Pierre Thomas.

Last year he averaged 4.8 yards per carry on 129 attempts.

Only six other back in the NFL could say they had that high of a rate on that many carries.

That would be Adrian Peterson, DeAngelo Williams, Steve Slaton, Chris Johnson, Derrick Ward, and Brandon Jacobs.

Out of those six only Ward, and Slaton had more total receiving yards then Pierre Thomas had last year.

He also had 12 touchdowns combined on ground and through the air.  Only 9 other running backs in the NFL could say that they had at least that many.

Now he didn't play a full season as a starter, but for the amount of times he was out there as a starter, Thomas was at the very least on par with what you would want out of a starting NFL running back.

No I included Forte.

The nine I had were DeAngelo Williams, Michael Turner, Matt Forte, Thomas Jones, LaDainian Tomlinson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Brian Westbrook, Brandon Jacobs, and LenDale White.

Ok well you got me there. I was throwing that out because he wasn't a starter last year, and I guarantee he won't have a 1000 yards rushing or 10 touchdowns running. Pierre is an average back he can be replaced at any time.
