Top 50 what?

The top 100 position players is a list I started working on last November, and wasn't finished until February.

I plan on doing another list for the start of the football season.

The question is what position should I do a top 50 list for?

In my very limited time as a football player, VERY limitied time, I was a receiver. So I have to say receiver.

I was planning to do quaterback, but wide out would be something different, and it's a position you rarely hear a debate about who was the greatest at.

Again I would rather do quarterback, but if people would rather see a greatest wide receiver list, which is what it's looking like, I'll do that instead.

Offensive guards will not be coming for some time, until they develop a reasonable statistic I can use to compare linemen.

Well people wanted to see top 50 Wide Receiver, and that's what I've been working on all day.

It's been much easier to do Wide Receivers as opposed to baseball, just because my pool is about a 1000 less then what it was in baseball, and that's considering the fact that I will be able to rank virtually every name receiver going back to the 1940's.

Right now I've got about 140 guys ranked right now, but I've encountered a few surprises.

The biggest has been just how volatile the era's have been with regards to passing.  I always knew the NFL went through trends but I just didn't realize how pass happy the league was in the 1960's, as opposed to the 1970's where there was virtually no passing by comparison.

As far as who the most overrated player is, it's no surprise to me, but how overrated his numbers actually are surprised me.

Forgot about top 50, Lynn Swan is currently just barley holding on to the top 100.  (as of this post I have him ranked at number 93, which is the highest he can possibly be)

I said before there was less passing in the 1970's, but I adjusted for that.

Even if you think I didn't at the peak of Swann's career 1977 I have no less then 18 wide receivers who were active at the time that are ranked higher on the all-time list.  (that's not to say I could come up with 18 receivers who had a better year in 1977, it means there were 18 receivers who were active alongside Swann in 1977 who I felt had better careers)

It's just surprising that for all the talk we've heard about great he is, according to my rankings on him he's basically an average NFL starting wide receiver even for his time.
