What do you think is the hardest position to play in the field? and Why?
for me i think the hardest position to play in the field is Third Base.
Why? because its hard to play that corner in the sun with out shades and its really easily to get smoked in the face if u dont play that position, i would know i play the hot corner.

Catcher... 1. They need cat-like reflexes to be able to block pitches in the dirt, 2. They need to have the ability to catch some nasty pitches with a lot of movement, 3. They need to be able to call a good game, they actually have to make decisions that could effect the outcome of the game.
But 3rd base and shortstop are also very very tough to play.

1. Catchers take longer to develop then any other position. Most catchers don't come up until they are around 25, or older in some cases.
2. They have the shortest careers, because of the physical strain the position requires.
3. On average your catcher is also your smartest player on the field. It's no coincidence that out of the 30 current big league managers 9 of them were former catchers.
4. It's by far the toughest position to find talent at, because so few are capable of playing the position.
I say third base. You have to have the best reaction time of most posistions and not to mention be a good athlete to reach some of the balls hit at you and have to have a starong arm to get it to first on those tough plays.

I'm going with third base because you got to have a quick reflexes and its hard to find a good third baseman these days. They need to be strong and make incredible throws to the first baseman.

My thing is generally speaking if you can play shortstop, you can play third as well, and alot of shortstops wind up moving to third base because either a. they can't hack it at short anymore, or b. the team has an overabundance of shortstops.
Needless to say it's still a position where you can plug in a player.
Catcher is a position where you can't plug somebody in, and there is no other position that trains you for it.
If you could plug somebody in at the position, alot of .220 hitting catchers would be out of a job.
