The biggest complaint most people have of the situation is why is congress getting involved, don't they have better things to do?
To answer that I would say that there is some merit to the argument, and maybe congress is spending a little more time on sports then they should, but at the same time I would argue that no other institution needs more government regulation in order to operate than sports.
It's because all sports need antitrust exemptions in order to operate. There's no way around it. Making a schedule technically violates antitrust laws.
I would say there is no question that the BCS system is unfair to small conference schools. The fact that only two teams can compete in the National Championship combined with the many biases that can occur in voting for who actually plays in the National Title game sets up a barrier of entry into the National Championship that a small conference school cannot overcome.
If that argument is true, it violates antitrust laws, and the BCS should be eliminated immediately.
My biggest complaint of the matter is I think congress is pursing the wrong issues with the NCAA.
Here's my two complains with college football, and college basketball as well.
1. Why are college coaches like Nick Saban earning an NFL level salary, even though their programs only generate about a tenth of the revenue that an NFL team does?
2. Why are colleges enrolling students who appear to be grossly underqualified for attending college under normal circumstance, and who's sole purpose appears to be playing football in order to generate money for the school, with a complete disregard for their academic performance?
Pmo at the end of the day its all about one thing winning and earining money for th school.Schools like USC and LSU and many other schools take the best athletes but they are usually the most underqualified person you have their GPA is normally substandard compared to the average GPA. These guys are athletic but when it coems down to it these guys are dumb as rocks. But since school want to win they will keep ging after these type of players.
Now on the smaller schools not getting into the BCS this is a shame actually. BCS schools have lost to the smaller school in some BCS bowl games. Boise State beat Oklahoma and Utah has done it twice beating Pitt and Alabama. The only school to lose is Hawaii and they got murdered by Georgia. Smaller schools will have to beat the bigger schools to get noticed and maybe het noticed for a National Championship bid.
