"Former ECW World champion and long-time WWE announcer Tazz left World Wrestling Entertainment last night after calling the matches for this Friday's edition of Smackdown. He is now officially done with the company as his WWE contract expires today."
I will never understand how WWE let Tazz go. Tazz has probably been the best color commentator in all of wrestling in quite sometime. The tandem of J.R. & Tazz in the booth on Friday nights was great to listen to. It will be interesting to see who becomes a commentator next for the Smackdown brand...
Immediately Matt Striker becomes on top of list from within WWE but I hope they go "outside the box" and look into to possibly bringing back Joey Styles or even reaching out to a WWE legend like Roddy Piper who has a background of color commentating from the early 90s.
To follow up today's story www.pwinsider.com is reporting the following:
"Tazz gave notice a few weeks ago. He said needed to recharge his batteries and left "the right way". He was seen with Stephanie and Shane McMahon saying goodbye at TV yesterday."
"Tazz's contract with WWE expires at the end of today. There had been talks on a new deal but Tazz made the call to leave for the reason mentioned about. He was not "future endeavored". In fact, when you work through a contract to its end, it's not even possible to be "future endeavored".
We were told that he offered to do Mania if they needed him, so he didn't leave them in the lurch."
Tazz has always been one of my performers inside & outside of the ring for the last decade & a half. Tazz is truly a class act on going out on the right professional terms. It's good to hear the door is still open & that he has even offered to do Mania. His trademark Brooklyn accent will be missed on WWE TV programming.
