Oakland have agreed to one year contract with infielder Nomar Garciaparra.
I think that everyone talks about the Yankees but I'm very hard pressed to find another team that's been as active as Oakland.
They traded for Matt Holliday, signed Jason Giambi, and signed Orlando Cabrera yesterday.
They've also resigned most of their players to one year deals. Which means then can destroy half of their roster in one year.
On paper it looks like Oakland has been big spenders in the offseason, but in reality all they've been doing is setting their roster up to where it can be turned over without much difficulty again, while at the same time being as competitive as possible.
That right there may be why Billy Beane is the best GM in the business today. I think it's remarkable that Oakland's record in the past decade can go toe to toe with anybody, considering the amount of money they've spent.
