PHOENIX -- Whether Manny Ramirez has rejected yet another offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers depends on whom you ask.
The Dodgers announced Thursday night the star outfielder's agent, Scott Boras, had declined a $25 million, one-year contract with a $20 million player option for 2010. It was the club's fourth offer to Ramirez this offseason.
But Boras said he did not reject the Dodgers' offer, according to the Los Angeles Times. "They asked me to respond to them and I gave them a counterproposal within the framework of the structure we had agreed upon," Boras said.
Manny will sign with the Dodgers eventually but reports out here are swirling that this was not really a good deal. According to Steve Phillips this morning on ESPN First take the deal was 10 million this year with 15 million deferred and the player option was 10 million next year and the other 10 million deffered. So essentialy he was only going to make 10 million this season...I hope he signs soon cause the Dodgers are screwed if he doesnt
if Manny doesnt sign Juan Pierre will take over in LF and dodgers and Juan is a contact hitter and a Speed guy
I agree SG. I have always been a fan of Juan Pierre...though he is no Manny Ramirez, the guy is fun to watch. It's definately not a crucial downgrade for the Dodgers if Manny doesn't return.
The Dodgers need Manny and they need him bad, without him they are left with the same team that probably wouldnt have made the postseason without him. On the plus side for the Dodgers is that it doesnt seem like anybody else is interested. I belive it is Manny being Manny and when spring training progresses along he will sign. Its like that 34 year old linebacker who doesnt sign until teams break camp and two a days are over.
I think a good question would be who has the ball in their court right now? Is it the Dodgers or is it Manny?
To me it appears the Dodgers need Manny more then Manny needs Baseball. He's obviously financially stable to sit out however many games it is and probably it doesn't bother him. While the Dodgers need that strong bat in their lineup.
I do agree with Wally and JP that Manny will eventually sign with the Dodgers. The problem is if he doesnt sign Juan Pierre is not the savior in LF. The Dodgers will have no power in the lineup Kemp strikes out too much and Either is a product of batting before Manny...Frank McCourt the Dodgers owner needs to do whatever he can to sign manny 2 yr guarranteed is great a player option for a 3rd year. The Dodgers draw close to 4 million fans a season so the revenue is there. Not to mention they charge 15 bucks to park and walk a mile to get there....Money shouldnt be a problem for them. Give Manny what he wants are the Dodgers will finish in 3rd in the weakest division in baseball
Ok I'm getting sick of this, Scott Boras thinks he can still get Manny more than 2 years and 45 million dollar deal that guy is nuts. He is losing a lot of credabiltiy as a good agent. He is as greedy as they come though I will give him that. Manny should just take the deal no team is going to offer him more than 2 years because he is getting to old now. He can still hit, but his defense is a reliabitly. The only team that was going for him was the Dodgers, and there were some reports that the Giants might be interested in Manny, but they haven't made any moves on him. Manny should've just taken the deal and gone to Spring Training.
