Jags Release Fred Taylor

Jags released Fred Taylor. Fred Taylor had 1 yr. worth 6 mill on his contract. Jags didnt negotiate for a lower contracted deal went straight to releasing the 3rd most rushing yds for active players behind Edgerin James and LT. Will anyone pick up Fred Taylor for a couple mill a year or just let him stay in FA.

I would like to have him as a back-up for Matt Forte. He only has one maybe two years left in him, but I think he'd be a really good mentor for Forte.

The other AP is not a bad backup steve, neither is Garrett Wolfe....You guys need a QB not an RB

Actually, the bears need O-line help and a defense....Orton is good enough to get you to the playoffs.

Wow Cap'n! That is the rarest thing these days. Someone who actually realizes that Orton is a good QB. Great? Hell no. But there hasn't been a great Bears QB since Sid Luckman over 50 years ago. And Coach, I love myself some Garrett Wolfe, and Adrian Peterson is a solid back-up, but I think Fred Taylor would be an awesome mentor for Forte. They have pretty much the same running styles. And Wolfe and Peterson are both really good special teamers who don't see the field on offense that much. I also think they treated Kevin Jones like a piece of sh*t last year. We could've had an awesome backfield tandom but Ron Turner f*cked it up.

You do know Kevin Jones Sucks right Steve?

He doesn't suck. He's just not good enough to be a starter. He is a good back up running back, the reason why he was inactive a lot this year was because he didn't play special teams which is retarded because when ced-ben was a back up he was active every week and still didn't play special teams. And Kevin Jones is better than Ced-Ben.

I agree Jones is better than Benson. Benson is one of the biggest busts ever.

Wow, JP mark this moment down. This is MESN history. Something that Baja can't argue with me about. Something we actually agree on.

And yes, Ced-Ben is up there with Rashaan Salaam and Curtis Enis as the biggest busts in Bears RB history.

I certainly agree with Orton being playoff caliber. Steve how did this guy get such a bad wrap when from rookie season on he has done nothing but win football games? I mean you cant get to the postseason without winning.

QB rating is one of the most overrated stats there is among football. To me, check out his pass-interception ratio. if the guy doesnt turn the football over, odds are his team will have a chance to win. orton doesnt turn the ball over that much.

If my memory serves correctly didnt Grossman get hurt that season and Orton go something like 9-2 and lost his job because Grossman was healthy.

Well in 05, Orton's rookie year, Wrecks got hurt in the pre-season. Orton won 10 games out of the 11 they won that year. Then when Wrecks came back from injury he got his job back. A lot of players have since come out and said that wish Orton would've been given a chance to play in the playoffs and finish what he started. So Orton wins 10 games his rookie year and doesn't see the field for another year and a half. I have no idea why they didn't give him more chances. Does he do any spectacular? No. But he does something that Wrecks didn't which is he doesn't turn the ball over a lot. When Wrecks got blitz he'd throw the ball down the middle of the field praying that someone would catch it. When Orton gets blitzed he escapes the pocket, looks down field, if no one is open he throws the ball out of bounds. I have always been a huge fan of Kyle Orton and I get pissed when he always gets the short end of te stick because Ron Turner doesn't know sh*t about football.

Kyle Orton is a very good quarterback for the Bears and when he won nine games in his first season and was replaced by Rex Grossman I could see that happening. I mean it's probaly going to happen when the Patriots get Tom Brady back. So they are going to have 29 million dollars at the QB postition.

Kyle Orton may be a solid QB but the NFC has gotten a lot stronger over the past couple years and quite frankly, this isn't a bias statement either steve, I just don't see chicago making a super bowl with Orton at QB. He just doesn't do enough for chicago to consistently play well. But that's just me.

I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with you cheese. I think Orton is exactly the type of QB the Bears need to get to a Super Bowl. Chicago Bears football has always been about two things; A great defense, and a great running back. There defense needs some work but they have a great running back in the making with Matt Forte. But there definite needs right now are o-line, receiver, and defensive back. They do not need a new QB right now. Kyle Orton may not do a lot of things to win games, but he does so many things to not lose games.

No way are they going to make the Superbowl with Kyle Orton, he may be a better quaterback than Rex Grossman, but they got no recivers that are any good. Their best reciever is Matt Forte and he's the running back.

If Trent Dilfer can take a team to a SB, Orton probably can too. Do I think they can win the SB with the team they have now? No I don't. If you give Orton some WRs, then yes I think they are SB contenders

Orton's decent, but to just keep it simple there's better teams in the NFC then the Bears right now.

Maybe in two years or so Chicago can make a run at it, but right now I just don't see them getting past teams like the Giants, Eagles, Panthers, or even the Vikings.

I think the Bears are a good team that needs help with their receiving core, but that defense is also starting to creep up in age a little, so time may be running out for that group.

Chicago needs to start having great drafts instead of average ones if they are to start competiting again.

True Chicago has gotten some decent players since their last great draft year in 2004, but not superstars save maybe for the exception of Devin Hester.

You need top of the line talent to win.  Plain and simple.  I don't think Chicago has a whole lot of it right now, or at least not enough.

I don't think Chciago is a bad team by any means, I just don't think they are a great one.

That can't possibly be a knock on Orton can it? You put any QB in the same system and they will do pretty much the same thing. Like I've said before, they need receivers, o-linemen, and defensive backs. They get those, they are a contender.

P-Mo, you say you don't think Chicago is a bad team by any means. I am a life-long Bears fan and I'm willing to say this. As long as Ron Turner is still coaching the offense and Bob Babich is still doing whatever it is he's doing to that once proud defense, they are a bad team by all means. They are a bad team who can still make the playoffs because of there even worse division.

Right now I think they are average.

They're not a bad team, because that defense is still good enough to keep them in just about every game for now.

They are a bad team in a very bad division which makes them look average. And they would've started the season 6-0 had it not been for the defense. They blew leads late in the 4th quarter three times in 6 weeks. Unacceptable. However, they did do some good things so far for the D. Lovie has said he's taking over the defensive play-calling which is what got him the head coaching job in the first place, and they signed Marinelli as there D-Line coach. Say what you will about him being a horrible head coach, but Marinelli put together one of the best D-Lines in the league at Tampa. So much in fact that Warren Sapp has even come out to say that without Marinelli, he doesn't know if he would've been as good as he was.

Detroit is an orgainzation that is just so bad I don't think Vince Lombardi could have turn those guys around.

Honestly Rob Marinelli's performance is Detroit is ungradeable in my mind, so I really don't know what to think of him.

And maybe Chicago's D is getting up there in age a little quicker then I thought they would.

I still stand by my original statement of them being an average team that needs to draft better, but you did bring up a couple of good points Steve.

Steven that wasn't a knock on Kyle Orton at all. But is accuracy is off as a quarterback because the pressure around him gets to him, and when he does throw a good pass the reciever drops it on him. So it's not a knock on him its just that his players around him aren't very good.

So Steve you're basically saying the bears need a lot of help, and some coaching moves before Orton can be effective?

That's not what I'm saying at all. I said they need to make a lot moves and some coaching changes before the team will be good. Orton was effective last year with what he had, but in order for the team to be a contender they gotta get him some better receivers and a better o-line.

But then again if you got a better o-line and better receivers and different coaches why wouldn't wrecks be able to succeed? He did make it to the super bowl with a good defense and if i'm not mistaken the same coaches. If all those changes were made in chicago i think a lot of quarterbacks could be successful.

Steve the Bears need some help with the O line and with the wide recievers, they also could use a good D line. They probaly if I were them would go after a big O line perferably a Left Tackle it seems that it helps your team out if they can block on the left side for your team.

a team that can use Fred Taylor could be the Colts or Bengals one of the teams worst Running teams all of them with 1,500 rushing yds or worst while teams have haveing almost 2,000 Rushing yds comined so Colts could use a back up when Addia is hurt or Bengals cuz they dont have rudi running the ball anymore. fred taylor could help the bengals running the ball with his experience.

Because Wrecks isn't a good QB. In 06, when they made the super bowl, Ron Rivera was the D-coordinator, then 07 Bob Babich took over. And in 06, we had Thomas Jones who carried the load on offense. The difference between Orton and Wrecks is that Orton doesn't make stupid decisions. And when Wrecks was playin in 06, he had Muhsin Muhammed and Bernard Berrian as his top receivers.. When Orton played last year, he had Matt Forte a RB, and Greg Olsen a TE as his top receivers.

Right but like you said if chicago gets good receivers like muhammed and berrian and with forte carrying the load like a thomas jones, wouldn't it be the same as 06? If you give rex the same formula as 06 what would be different? It's hard to explain what i'm trying to say.

The difference is if you give Orton what Rex had in 06, they would win the Super Bowl instead of just getting there.

Well we'll see what happens. I just don't think that orton has what it takes to lead a team to a super bowl victory.

Yah but the Colts had Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison in his prime and lets not forget the best QB in the league( number wise right now) Peyton Manning. The defense was clicking in the post season stopping the run. The Colts had Dominic Rhodes who was running pretty well back then and you have the best FS in my opionion in Bob Sanders.

Thats not going out on the limb Cheesy that's pretty accurate if you ask me. Kyle is a good QB but with the nucleus around around him they won't make the Superbowl.

Have you been ****ed in the head Bob? An average QB can lead his team to the SB. As long as his teammates are good, a guy who throws 1 TD and 0 INTs or 0 TDs and 0 INTs can win a SB. How the **** do you know what they will do in the draft or FA? For all you know they could have a great draft and do amazing things in FA.

Dude I'm not going to start fighting with you just like you and Steven did. If you disagree fine with me. Yah I know there have been a lot of them 2000 Trent Dilfer and the Ravens. Brad Johnson and the Buccs and many others. Son that part your right. But think about this if you have problems at a postition you go out and draft them. Thats how it works baja.

Everyone knows by now that I have been a Bears my whole life. In 2004 the Bears had 4 different starting QBs. Rex Grossman, John Quinn, Craig Krenzel, and Chad Hutchinson. After that year I thought there was no way that team was gonna win any time soon. Then they made the playoffs the next year, and the Super Bowl the year after that. This is the NFL people, anything can happen.
