Jeff Kent retires

After 17 years in the majors, Jeff kent will officially announce his retirement tomorrow january 22nd at dodger stadium.  He put up incredible numbers as a second baseman and now the question arises of... is he a hall of famer?

I think he deserves to be in the Hall of fame. He was a great player and helped get the Giants to the Series in 2002 and with the NL MVP that helps alot also

He was a helluva player, but was also a large piece of sh*t, who may or may not have taken something that may or may not have made him better. Regaurdless, He's a hall of famer as long as they don't find any evidence that he used.

Second basement arent meant to hit homers though, and u gotta remember, the bigger ur swing, the more K's ur gonna get. I think the perfect second baseman is a Dustin Pedroia like player. He will get u great hits with very little K's

so if second basemen aren't "meant" to hit homers and kent hit almost 400 doesn't that make him a hall of famer?

i know second basemen arent meant to hit homers, but thats what made kent special. there was only a couple second basemen in the last 15 years who could bat clean-up

Jeff Kent should be in Cooperstown. Like Pistons,PSU said he hit a lot of homeruns for a 2nd basemen

Like I said before, he is a Hall of Famer as long as no evidence or accusations come up about steroids. I know it's kinda unfair to judge him like that but you gotta assume that anyone who hit a lot of homeruns in the period of time that kent played was on some kind of steroid. It sucks to think about it, but it's true. And Kent was a team mate of Barry Bonds for a few years.

He was good but how can you see him as a hall of famer. DOes he have 3000 hits no. Does he have 500 homeruns no. So he will be like the Don Mattingly of recent times.

Well the argument will always be that if Ryne Sandberg made it to the Hall on a career of high batting averages, then Kent should make it since he has the most homers for a second baseman.

Bob 500 home runs and 3000 hits aren't requirements for the hall of fame. Kent was arguably one of the best second basemen of all time and for that he should get in.

Kent was a great talent and definately belongs in the Hall of Fame. The better question is he a first ballot hall of famer???

He wont be a first ballot hall of famer because he is pretty much a dick to the media and his teammates. After watching his act here in SoCal the last couple of season he only thinks of himself and pretty much just says F-U to his team

He was a major dick also. Him and Bonds they had great feuds and then yah why don't you think their aren't many second basemen in the HOF cheesy lets think about that.

What are you talking about bob? If you're going to judge everyone on 3000 hits and 500 homeruns no second basemen would be in. I don't get what you're getting at.

I'm going to be coming out with a list in shortly of my 100 greatest position players of all-time.  (still a work in progress)

Needless to say though Jeff Kent will be on the list.

To me he's a Hall of Famer to say the least.

Kent def. has Hall of fame stats. The 3000 hits/500 homers is complete B.S. You just have to be great at what you do. Ryne Sandberg didn't have 3000 hits and didn't even have 300 homers, yet he got in because he won 9 Gold Gloves and was the best second baseman of his time. It's quite obvious that Jeff kent was the best second baseman of his time, the only problem was that his time was filled with rumors of steroid use. That would be the only thing that would stop him from getting the hall call.
