Is it just me or have teams not learned about throwing rookie QB's to the wolves. In most cases it has done more harm then good. Look at Aaron Rodgers for example, he doesnt really look like he's getting his NFL feet wet, Tony Romo is another perfect example of being able to watch the game be played. Matt Ryan may be alright but Joe Flacco is gonna burn. Seems like every year the NFL produces another Ryan Leaf without the tirades of course. Sorry to say this CO but the Niners did the same with Alex Smith, Although he's hurt and out for the year some guy named J.T. O'Sullivan flat out beat him for the job.
Your right wally but if I recall so has the Tennesse Titans with Vince Young and the Cardinals with Matt Leinart. Vince Young, like Ryan Leaf, has done good his first year but has decreased significantly skill wise. Matt Leinart is now the back up to Kurt Warner and this is just proving your point Wally don't start rookie quarterbacks.

Lets see where to start here. Alex Smith maybe even a worse pick thenn Leaf. Young nothing special he can make plays on his legs not so much passing. Leinart hasn't been good after he left USC and lost Reggie Busch. Tavaris Jackson just plain sucks. Joe Flacco has the talent but hes not on a good team. matt Ryan i think will be the best one after all is said and done from this list.

Thats the biggest difference from college to the pros for QB's, in the NFL no QB has ever won using his legs, I mean they can win you a game or two but over the long haul he has to be able to throw the ball. Young reminds me too much of Vick, Vick and the Falcons were a one trick pony, keep Vick in the pocket and you would usually win.
OK i have to defend Alex here. he has had 4 different offenses to learn in the 4 years he has been a pro. Every year they have completely changed the offense. O' Sullivan had a head start because he had already been in the offense the last 2 years. I think Smith will be ok down the road just right now hes gun shy. Leftwich sat on the bench his first year and see where it got him. Dont forget guys like Tim Couch, Joey Harrington, and Dvid carr are also rookies who started right away and are now out of the leage or backups who might never see the field again.

well leftwich at least had a team around him in jacksonville. couch played on a bad browns team. harrington played on a hoorible lions team, and carr got sacked on every drive when he played for the texans. leftwich was decent for a while, leading the jags to the playoffs, but he played himself out of the starting position handing it to David Garrard. the same thing could be said about alex smith, playing his way out of the starting position handing it to J.T O'sullivan
Smith didnt play himself out.....his first season he had no one around him...year 2 he played very well and led a talentless niners team to a 7-9 record. Lst year he got hurt and tried to play through it and then this year his shoulder was never fully healed. I hope someone gives him another shot in the league. To me Reggie Bush has been more of a disappointment than Alex Smith.

i think reggie bush is gradually turning into an nfl star. its only his 2nd year and the saints finally found an appropriate way to use him in that offense. without colston he's their most dangerous player. and whether smith played his way out of the job or not, the 49ers look like a better team with o'sullivan
this is Bush's 3rd season and I see why The Texans picked mario Williams over him. i think the Titans and Cards are kicking themselves for passing on Cutler.....The niners look ok because they've played 2 average teams and one horrible team. USC would beat the Lions by a bigger margin than the Niners and Im a Niner fan

The Niners are looking good with JT at QB. I like him alot. Gore is having a good season so far. If they casn keep this up then they could win the WEAK NFC West this year. Its going to be between them and Arizona this year i believe. Reggie Busch is starting to turn into a better player in his third season. He is getitng more involved in the Offense and Brees is looking for him in the passing game alot with oout Colsten.

Reggie Bush is a flat out bust. He has durability issues and always will, he has never been and is still not the best back on that team. I'd be pounding the ball with Pierre Thomas and use Bush mainly as a recevier. The only thing he has done consistently is be mediocre.
He was a bust. Hes starting to come around and is turning into a star player. He is getting more touches now with out Duce for a little while. He will be back soon and he will take a few touches away. Busch is getting used as a WR right now more than a RB and Pierrer Thomas is getting more touches in the running game. I dont see a problem with using Busch as a WR he is a great player and he will be better as he goes.

Yea well he is starting to turn it around and you can't say he isn't. Hes going to be a semi bust and prolly end up being in the bottom end of the top ten or even after ten of busts because we all know the biggest bust was Ryan Leaf

Ok well Reggie Bush is just making the Saints better right now. The Saints are just as good of a team with out him as they are with him. He adds the speed they need and someon who can get to the out side and hes playing very well now with out colsten

hes only in his third season right now. If he can get stronger over the offseason again then he will be able to run guys flat on their backs. It all comes down to if he can get stronger and the blocking he gets

The Saints will never be better than average if they cant run the football, we can talk all day about what a good reciever Bush is but the bottom line is nobody wins anything without an effective ground game. Bottom line is Bush is a runningback and has to prove he can run the ball which he cant thus far. This is the NFL not the Pac-10.
They have a pretty good running game still and they have Pierre Thomas who is getting most of the carries and is a good running back. Bush is getting mainly used as a WR and yes this sure isn't the Pac Ten.

He needs to stop worrying about Kim Kardashian and play football...The 49ers were able to keep him check by having arguably the best LB in football Patrick Willis spy on him all day
